Crucial three points in playoff race

Tijuana, March 17Club Tijuana Femenil earned an important 2-1 victory over Pumas UNAM Femenil in Matchday 12 of the Liga MX Femenil, in a hard-fought match at Estadio Caliente.

Coming off a 2-0 loss to Pachuca, the result was crucial for Tijuana as they continue to fight for a playoff spot against a direct rival.

Early goal gives Xolos the advantage

One of the biggest surprises in the starting lineup was the absence of Renae Cuéllar Hancar, who began the match on the bench.

However, head coach Fernando Samayoa proved his decision right almost immediately.

In the 3rd minute, Fabiola Ibarra scored the opening goal to give Xolos a 1-0 lead.

Pumas respond and control the first half

After conceding early, Pumas Femenil took control of the match for much of the first half.

Their efforts paid off in the 19th minute when Angelina Hix found the back of the net to make it 1-1.

From that point on, Pumas looked more dangerous heading into halftime.

Physical play leads to injuries

The match was also defined by its physical intensity, particularly from the visiting side.

Dana Sandoval was forced off early in the match due to injury following a heavy challenge.

Later, in the 90th minute, Amogelang Motau also had to leave the field with an injury, highlighting the physical nature of the contest.

Dani Fuentes scores the winner

With the match seemingly heading toward a draw, a decisive moment came in the 76th minute.

Dani Fuentes scored the winning goal after a strong attacking play, sealing a 2-1 victory for Xolos Femenil.

Strong bond with fans emerges

One of the most notable aspects after the final whistle was the reaction from the crowd.

Players and coaching staff were applauded as they left the field—something that contrasts with the previous era under Juan Romo, when criticism from fans was more common.

Coach Fernando Samayoa later said, “I’m happy here,” emphasizing the unity within the club.

Looking ahead in the season

This victory carries extra weight as it came against a direct playoff rival.

Xolos Femenil will next host Club Deportivo Guadalajara Femenil on March 29.

The club also reminded fans that free entry is available for home matches, encouraging continued support during this crucial stretch of the season.
