Gilberto Mora leads Xolos to another victory
Club Tijuana continued its impressive start to the Liga MX season by defeating Club León 1-0 in Matchday 2.
Following an opening-week victory over Tigres, Sebastián "Loco" Abreu's squad once again found a way to collect all three points.
The spotlight belonged to Gilberto Mora.
After emerging as one of Mexico's brightest young stars during the FIFA World Cup and reportedly attracting interest from European clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, the 17-year-old returned to club action after missing the opening match of the season.
Although he started on the bench, he would ultimately become the match winner.
Gandolfi returns to Tijuana
Another major storyline was the return of Javier Gandolfi to Estadio Caliente.
A key member of the only championship-winning team in Xolos history, Gandolfi came back as León's head coach, creating an emotional atmosphere given his connection with the club and the rivalry between both teams.
A special tribute to Gilberto Mora
The excitement surrounding Gilberto Mora was evident long before kickoff.
Supporters displayed a giant banner featuring the young midfielder, while thousands of fans wore both Mexico national team jerseys and Xolos shirts bearing his famous No. 19.
The ovation he received throughout the evening reflected his growing status as one of the club's most beloved academy products.
A physical first half
The opening 45 minutes were dominated by fouls and midfield battles, preventing either team from establishing sustained possession.
The most concerning moment came in first-half stoppage time when Alejandro "Plátano" Alvarado and Jackson Porozo collided head-to-head.
Alvarado left the field covered in blood after receiving lengthy medical attention.
Shortly before halftime, Xolos earned a penalty after a foul inside the box.
However, Mourad Daoudi failed to convert from the spot, leaving the match scoreless heading into the break.
Mora changes the game
Everything changed shortly after halftime.
As Gilberto Mora prepared to enter the match, the Estadio Caliente erupted in applause, creating one of the night's most memorable moments.
Only minutes after coming on, Mora fired a shot that struck a León defender's hand inside the penalty area, giving Xolos another penalty opportunity.
This time, Mora stepped up himself.
The teenager calmly converted the penalty to score the only goal of the evening and secure another victory for the home side.
A celebration to remember
Following the goal, Gilberto Mora shared an emotional celebration with his father, who recently joined Sebastián Abreu's coaching staff as an assistant coach.
The embrace became one of the defining images of the night, highlighting the family's journey and the young star's remarkable rise.
Xolos continue their perfect start
With two victories in their opening two matches, Xolos have built early momentum in the Liga MX season.
While the team's style continues to develop under Sebastián Abreu, the results have been exactly what the club hoped for.
Led by one of Mexico's brightest young talents, Club Tijuana continues to show that it has the character and quality to compete, while Gilberto Mora keeps proving why he is considered one of the country's most exciting prospects.
