A Dream Debut in El Salvador

The Washington Spirit kicked off its 2025-26 Concacaf W Champions Cup campaign in style, securing its first-ever international victory with a dominant 7-0 win over Alianza Women FC at Estadio Las Delicias in Santa Tecla. From the opening minutes, the visitors controlled possession and dictated the tempo of the match.

First Half: Control and Key Goals

After some early exchanges in both penalty areas, the score was finally opened in the 21st minute. Rosemonde Kouassi converted a penalty after a foul on Chloe Ricketts, giving Spirit the 1-0 lead. Just three minutes later, Ricketts herself extended the advantage, capitalizing on a series of rebounds in the box to score her first goal since her rookie season in 2023.

The Spirit kept up the pressure, creating more chances, but went into halftime with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Offensive Explosion in the Second Half

The second half was an all-out offensive display from Washington. In the 49th minute, Brittany Ratcliffe pounced on a rebound to make it 3-0. Three minutes later, Kouassi struck again, finishing off a play following a shot from Morris. The scoring spree continued in the 56th minute, when substitute Trinity Rodman found the net after an assist from Ratcliffe.

The sixth goal came in the 59th minute as Kouassi completed her hat trick, continuing her outstanding scoring form with four goals in just four days. Finally, in the 89th minute, Sofia Cantore sealed the 7-0 rout after yet another assist from Ratcliffe, who ended the night with a goal and three assists.

A Victory That Inspires Confidence

With this emphatic win, Washington Spirit takes the top spot in Group B and shows its continental ambitions. The team will now travel to San Francisco to face Bay FC in the NWSL on Saturday, August 23, at Oracle Park — a clash that could potentially break the league’s attendance record.
