San Diego continues unbeaten start in MLS
San Diego, March 14 — San Diego FC remained unbeaten in the 2026 Major League Soccer season after a dramatic 3-3 draw against FC Dallas in a match filled with action.
The California club entered the match with momentum following their 3-2 victory over Deportivo Toluca FC in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, a result that boosted confidence within the squad led by Mikey Varas.
Squad rotation ahead of Champions Cup clash
Some rotation was expected from San Diego FC due to the upcoming second leg against Toluca in Mexico.
Players such as Manu Duah and Marcus Ingvartsen saw significant playing time, as both will miss the return leg of the Champions Cup following their red cards in the first match.
Valakari opens the scoring
The first key moment arrived in the 20th minute when a handball by FC Dallas resulted in a penalty.
Onni Valakari stepped up and confidently converted the penalty to give San Diego FC a 1-0 lead.
Another penalty doubles the advantage
Just eleven minutes later, another heavy challenge near the box resulted in a second penalty for San Diego.
This time, Marcus Ingvartsen took the shot and scored, extending the lead to 2-0.
Dallas pulls one back before halftime
Before halftime, FC Dallas found a way back into the match.
In the 40th minute, after a scramble inside the box and a failed clearance by goalkeeper Carlos Sisniega, Musa capitalized to score the 2-1 goal.
Own goal restores San Diego’s lead
Early in the second half, Alex Mighten created a dangerous play and delivered a cross that ended up deflecting into the net for an own goal, restoring San Diego’s 3-1 advantage.
Musa leads Dallas comeback
FC Dallas responded again in the 53rd minute after a mistake in the back led to a penalty opportunity.
Musa converted from the spot, bringing Dallas within 3-2.
Late drama ends in a draw
Dallas thought they had equalized in the 72nd minute, but the goal was ruled out.
However, in stoppage time, Musa found the ball inside the box following a strong attacking sequence and scored the 3-3 equalizer in the final moments of the match.
Focus now shifts to Mexico
Although San Diego FC let the victory slip away in the final seconds, the team continues its unbeaten run in the 2026 MLS season.
The focus now shifts to Mexico, where San Diego will face Toluca in the decisive second leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
