San Diego FC lets victory slip at home
San Diego FC drew 2-2 against Los Angeles FC in an intense match that ended in frustration for the home side.
Coached by Mikey Varas, San Diego entered the match on an eight-game winless streak, while LAFC arrived as one of the top teams in Major League Soccer.
Bright start for San Diego
San Diego took the lead early. In the 7th minute, Anders Dreyer delivered a cross that Marcus Ingvartsen converted for the 1-0.
The atmosphere was electric, highlighted by a Star Wars-themed tifo from the home supporters.
Controlled first half
The rest of the first half was more balanced, with both teams battling for midfield control.
San Diego FC maintained its lead but failed to extend it.
Ingvartsen doubles the lead
In the second half, LAFC brought on Heung-Min Son, strengthening their lineup.
Despite that, Marcus Ingvartsen scored again in the 71st minute, making it 2-0 and putting San Diego in a strong position.
LAFC comeback begins
LAFC responded in the 81st minute when Denis Bouanga scored after an assist from Son.
From that point on, LAFC dominated possession and created constant pressure.
Late equalizer denies San Diego
In the 90+14 minute, Ryan Hollingshead scored the equalizer, with controversy surrounding a possible handball in the buildup.
The goal denied San Diego a much-needed win.
Another match without a win
After the match, Mikey Varas acknowledged the team’s effort but expressed concern over the continued lack of results.
