Building on opening-night momentum

San Diego, CA – March 1. After the emphatic 5-0 win over CF Montreal in Matchday 1, San Diego FC returned to Snapdragon Stadium to face St. Louis with a lineup largely unchanged.

Duran Ferree once again started in goal, reinforcing Mikey Varas’ trust in the young keeper, while CJ dos Santos and Pablo Sisniega remained on the bench.

The team also debuted its new community jersey, symbolizing unity between San Diego and Tijuana, featuring artistic details created by Pigmento.

St. Louis, meanwhile, was without Hartel due to family matters, a significant absence for the visitors. In goal, they relied on experienced European veteran Roman Bürki.

Early strike from Dreyer

The match could not have started better for the home side. In the 2nd minute, Anders Dreyer calmly finished a first-time shot inside the box to give San Diego a 1-0 lead.

The remainder of the first half saw San Diego control possession and dictate the tempo, while St. Louis struggled to create meaningful chances.

Ingvartsen seals the result

San Diego continued its dominance in the second half. In the 54th minute, Dreyer delivered a precise through ball to Marcus Ingvartsen, who finished clinically to make it 2-0.

St. Louis attempted defensive adjustments, including bringing on Tomas Totland at halftime, but he was forced off in the 71st minute due to injury.

Zamble adds fresh energy

Young prospect Bryan Zamble entered in the 88th minute, adding energy to an already commanding performance, though the result was never in doubt.

San Diego FC closed out the match confidently, securing a 2-0 victory that reflected its full control throughout the game.

A strong statement early in the season

With two consecutive wins and back-to-back home clean sheets, San Diego FC continues to prove that last season’s success was no fluke.

The team looks organized, confident, and ambitious. Early signs suggest that SDFC will once again be a serious contender in the race for the MLS Cup in 2026.
