Pachuca Opens Apertura 2025 with Commanding 3-0 Win Over Monterrey
Tuzos dominate Rayados at Estadio Hidalgo with goals from Cádiz, Domínguez, and Montiel.
Pachuca, Hidalgo — July 13, 2025. In a lively night at Estadio Hidalgo, Club Pachuca kicked off their Apertura 2025 campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over Monterrey. With high pressing, quick transitions, and capitalizing on defensive lapses, Jimmy Lozano's team started the tournament in style in front of their home fans.
Intense First Half Ends Scoreless
Right from kickoff, Pachuca set the tone with aggressive pressure, disrupting Rayados’ build-up play. The hosts dominated possession early and created multiple chances but couldn't find the net.
Monterrey had the clearest opportunity of the first half in the 11th minute when Stefan Medina unleashed a powerful shot that forced a spectacular save from Pachuca keeper Carlos Moreno. Minutes later, Monterrey's own goalkeeper, Santiago Mele, responded with a brilliant one-on-one stop against Alan Bautista to deny the opener.
In the 22nd minute, Mele again came up big, saving a low-driven effort from Alexéi Domínguez to keep things level.
Jesús "Tecatito" Corona nearly broke the deadlock for Monterrey at minute 25 with an acrobatic bicycle kick that rattled the post. Despite the excitement, both sides went into halftime with the score tied 0-0.
Tuzos Break Through and Seal the Match
The second half belonged entirely to Pachuca. Just five minutes in, Jhonder Cádiz broke the deadlock by controlling a pinpoint cross from Alan Bautista and slotting it past Mele for the 1-0 lead.
Only four minutes later, in the 54th minute, Alexéi Domínguez took advantage of a defensive error, surged forward with pace, and finished confidently to make it 2-0, sending the crowd into celebration.
Rayados attempted to respond with set-piece opportunities, and Sergio Ramos came close in the 74th minute with a powerful strike that narrowly missed the left post.
However, Pachuca delivered the final blow in the 76th minute. On a swift counterattack, Elías Montiel unleashed a brilliant shot that kissed the inside of the right post, leaving Mele no chance and sealing the 3-0 win.
A Dream Start for Jimmy Lozano
The victory marked a perfect debut for Jimmy Lozano as head coach of Pachuca. His squad showed intensity, verticality, and efficiency on both ends of the pitch. Monterrey, meanwhile, will need to address their defensive shortcomings ahead of their next match.
