🥈 Silver with a Golden Shine for Mexico
Singapore – July 27, 2025. Mexico kicked off its campaign at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore with a strong showing in mixed team diving, claiming the silver medal in a final dominated by powerhouse China.
The national squad — Osmar Olvera, Zyanya Parra, Alejandra Estudillo, and Randal Willars — delivered a consistent performance across the 3-meter springboard and 10-meter platform rounds, securing another international podium that reaffirms Mexico’s standing as a global diving contender.
⭐ Osmar Olvera Makes History
The standout of the day was undoubtedly Osmar Olvera, who opened the competition with a stunning 91.20-point dive, giving Mexico an early lead over the heavily favored Chinese team. With that performance, Olvera became the first Mexican diver to win five medals in World Aquatics Championships history.
At just 20 years old, the double Olympic medalist once again showed his world-class form and composure on the big stage.
⚖️ Momentum Shift in the Synchronized Round
Mexico’s early lead looked promising, but during the synchronized 3-meter springboard segment, the pair of Olvera and 15-year-old Zyanya Parra could not hold off the Chinese duo’s precision and execution. A nearly 15-point lead quickly evaporated, and the Mexicans dropped to second place, trailing by just 2.3 points.
🔝 Proud Finish from the Platform
In the final round off the 10-meter platform, Alejandra Estudillo and Randal Willars attempted to claw back into contention with high-difficulty dives. Despite a solid showing, the team could not overcome the excellence of the Chinese squad and ultimately secured a well-earned silver.
This marks Mexico’s third consecutive silver in the mixed team event, following runner-up finishes at Fukuoka 2023 and Doha 2024.
🏅 A Consistent Podium Presence
Once again, Mexico proves its place among the world’s aquatic elite. While the gold remains elusive against diving giants like China, Mexico's consistency on the podium is a testament to the strength and development of its diving program, with established stars like Olvera and rising talents like Parra leading the way.
