Xolos Femenil Say Goodbye to Their Home Fans with Defeat Against Cruz Azul
Xolos Femenil said goodbye to their supporters at Estadio Caliente with a 3-1 defeat against Cruz Azul, in their final home match of the Apertura 2026 season. After a difficult campaign in which the team managed just two victories and was eliminated from playoff contention, Tijuana hoped to give its fans a positive result in its last appearance at home.
Cruz Azul Femenil also entered the match without a chance of reaching the next round, despite having several recognizable players in its squad.
Weather conditions played a role throughout the game. Rain across Tijuana left the pitch particularly wet, creating challenging playing conditions for both teams and affecting several moments of the match.
In the 32nd minute, Xolos suffered an injury setback when Laura Parra was forced to leave the field, making way for experienced player Fabiola Ibarra. Shortly before halftime, in the 44th minute, Cruz Azul received a red card and was reduced to ten players, seemingly giving Tijuana a numerical advantage that could work in its favor.
However, the visitors struck first in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Dani Calderón found the back of the net to give Cruz Azul a 1-0 lead. Xolos responded shortly afterward through a powerful shot from Amanda Marroquín, who scored the equalizer and brought the home side back into the game.
The match appeared wide open again, but Cruz Azul made the most of its opportunities. In the 70th minute, Dani Calderón scored her second goal of the night to restore the visitors' lead. Just two minutes later, Ana Martínez capitalized on a defensive mistake to score Cruz Azul's third and secure the 3-1 victory.
With this result, Xolos Femenil concludes its home schedule after a season that has produced more questions than results. Although the team still has one away fixture remaining, its playoff hopes had already come to an end.
Despite the disappointing results, there is also a positive aspect worth highlighting: the border club appears to be developing the foundations of a project with greater continuity, something that has not always been present in previous seasons. Fernando Samayoa's future as head coach remains uncertain, but Xolos has shown signs that a more stable structure could provide a foundation for improvement in the next campaign.
The season did not end the way supporters had hoped, but the club's challenge now will be to maintain that progress and turn the first signs of stability into better results on the pitch.
