San Diego FC Suffer Another Road Loss, Falling 4-1 to NY Red Bulls

The difficult season continues for San Diego FC, who suffered a 4-1 defeat against the New York Red Bulls in their first-ever away visit to the New York side. With Mikey Varas’ team sitting outside the MLS playoff positions, San Diego desperately needed points but came away with another loss that further complicates its postseason hopes.

The visitors found themselves in trouble early. In the 15th minute, Julian Hall opened the scoring after a brilliant assist from Jorge Ruvalcaba, a familiar name to Liga MX fans. Just five minutes later, Devin Padelford doubled the lead, and in the 27th minute, Ruvalcaba added a third goal, leaving San Diego with a difficult deficit to overcome before halftime.

San Diego had a chance to get back into the game just before the break. In the 44th minute, Anders Dreyer stepped up to take a penalty, but he failed to convert, wasting a valuable opportunity to bring his team back into contention.

After halftime, San Diego finally found the net. Bakambu scored to make it 3-1, giving the California side a glimmer of hope. However, the comeback never materialized, and in the 90+3rd minute, Eric Choupo-Moting scored New York’s fourth goal to seal the result.

The defeat represents another setback for San Diego FC, whose chances of reaching the playoffs continue to diminish after a season of inconsistent results. The team will need to respond quickly to keep its postseason hopes alive.

San Diego’s next match will be against Houston Dynamo, who are also looking to remain in playoff contention. For San Diego, earning a win will be crucial to regaining ground before time runs out.
