Atlas and Puebla Deliver One of the Most Exciting Matches of Matchday 14
Atlas continues to show that the investment from its new ownership is beginning to pay off. Sitting among the tournament's top four teams, the Rojinegros welcomed Puebla to Estadio Jalisco looking to strengthen their position near the top of the standings. Instead, they found themselves in a thrilling contest that was decided in the closing stages.
The home side made an immediate impact. Just one minute into the match, Monzón put Atlas ahead, giving the home crowd an early reason to celebrate. Puebla responded through Luis Hernández, however, before taking the lead with an own goal by Paulo Ramírez, putting the visitors in control.
With Atlas trailing, the team needed a response to avoid dropping valuable points at home. In the 67th minute, Hernán Crespo introduced José Martín, a substitution that would ultimately change the course of the match.
Just one minute after coming on, José Martín scored the equalizer in the 68th minute. He was not finished, though. In the 79th minute, he found the net again to complete his brace and put Atlas back in front, emerging as the hero of the night at Estadio Jalisco.
Puebla refused to give up and pulled within one goal in the 84th minute, courtesy of Villegas, setting up a tense finish. Atlas held on, however, securing a dramatic 4-3 victory in one of Matchday 14's most entertaining games.
The result strengthens Atlas' position among the tournament's leading teams and reinforces its credentials as a contender near the top of the standings. For Puebla, the defeat brings disappointment after coming close to earning a positive result in a match that delivered seven goals and plenty of late drama.
