San Diego Wave Defeats Kansas City 2-0 in Penultimate Home Match
San Diego Wave earned a crucial 2-0 victory over Kansas City, building on its recent win against North Carolina Courage and strengthening its push toward the top of the standings.
Before kickoff, Temwa Chawinga was listed as questionable for Kansas City, but the forward ultimately started the match. For San Diego, Lia Godfrey received another opportunity in the starting lineup, while new signing Bonansea remained unavailable due to a visa-related issue.
The match was evenly contested early on, with both teams creating opportunities. The game changed in the 50th minute, when an own goal by Rouse gave San Diego Wave a 1-0 lead.
San Diego maintained control from that point forward. Kansas City tried to respond but struggled to create clear chances against the home team’s defense.
In the final minutes, Kennedy Wesley converted a free-kick opportunity from Kenza Dali to make it 2-0, securing three valuable points for San Diego.
The victory moved San Diego Wave temporarily into second place, pending the results from the rest of the weekend.
The match marked San Diego’s penultimate home game of the season. The team’s final home match will take place on October 25 against Boston Legacy, followed by away fixtures against Racing Louisville, Orlando Pride, North Carolina Courage, and Bay FC.
