San Diego FC Suffer Crushing 5-0 Loss to Philadelphia Union

San Diego FC entered a crucial six-point week looking to strengthen its position in the MLS playoff race. After falling 3-2 to San Jose Earthquakes despite trailing 3-0 earlier in the match, Mikey Varas' team returned home needing a response against a Philadelphia Union side riding a six-match unbeaten streak.

The match also featured several storylines. Cavan Sullivan, one of the biggest young American prospects, faced San Diego again, while Milan Iloski returned to Snapdragon Stadium after being transferred directly from San Diego FC to Philadelphia. During his press conference, Mikey Varas took responsibility for the defeat and delivered a strong self-criticism. He also acknowledged that some players are not currently feeling connected to the team, making it clear that they will have to prove they want to remain part of the project.
