San Diego FC defeats LA Galaxy in Chucky Lozano’s return to San Diego

San Diego, California. San Diego FC earned an important 3-1 victory over LA Galaxy in a rivalry match dominated by the return of Chucky Lozano to San Diego, with the former San Diego player being booed by the home crowd from warmups.

Mikey Varas’ team started aggressively, and in the 11th minute, Elias Anchouri took advantage of a series of rebounds to score the opening goal and give San Diego a 1-0 lead.

Galaxy created a few chances before halftime, but San Diego maintained control. Just two minutes into the second half, Kieran Sargeant doubled the lead in the 47th minute after getting ahead of the Galaxy defense.

San Diego’s task became more difficult shortly afterward when Tverskov was sent off, leaving the home side with ten players. Galaxy tried to capitalize, and in the 55th minute, Lozano had a chance to pull his team closer after a defensive mistake, but could not finish.

A minute later, Sergi Roberto made his MLS debut for Galaxy. The visitors later had a goal disallowed following a foul committed by Lozano.

In the 70th minute, San Diego struck on the counterattack. Anders Dreyer provided the assist and Amahl Pellegrino scored the third goal, seemingly putting the match away.

Galaxy managed to score a consolation goal, but could not change the outcome. San Diego FC secured a memorable victory over their Southern California rivals, while LA Galaxy left San Diego with plenty to improve.
