Chivas Defeat Xolos 2-0 in Tense Match in Tijuana

The second half of the Liga MX Femenil season is underway, and every point has become increasingly important for teams fighting to remain in the top positions and advance to the next stage. Chivas are looking to stay near the top of the table, while Xolos Femenil continue to fight for a place in the top four.

For this match, Michel Fong returned to the starting lineup after her time with Mexico’s U-20 national team in Poland. Melana also received an opportunity to start, with Kader Hancar beginning the match on the bench.

Another notable moment before kickoff was the presence of the Xolos supporters’ group, which showed up at Estadio Caliente to support the women’s team during an important match in their playoff push.

Xolos created several opportunities throughout the match, including attempts that hit the crossbar. However, Chivas eventually broke the deadlock in the 40th minute, when Denise Castro found the back of the net after a sequence in which the ball struck the posts before crossing the line.

Xolos tried to respond in the second half but could not find an equalizer. Then, deep into stoppage time, Licha Cervantes took advantage of a good attacking play in the 90+4th minute to make it 2-0.

The result leaves Xolos Femenil with less room for error in their playoff race, while Chivas move into second place and strengthen their position in the standings.

Xolos will now turn their attention to their next match away against FC Juárez, where the Tijuana side will need to collect points to keep their playoff hopes alive.
