England Crowned Back-to-Back European Champions After Beating Spain on Penalties

The Lionesses made history once again, claiming their second consecutive UEFA Women’s Euro title in a thrilling final against Spain that ended 1-1 in regular time and was decided 3-1 on penalties in England’s favor.

⚽ A Final Worthy of Champions

Spain struck first in the 25th minute when Mariona Caldentey headed home a pinpoint cross from Ona Batlle, sending Spanish fans into celebration at the stadium in Basel. But England responded with determination in the second half.

Alessia Russo brought the Lionesses level in the 57th minute, nodding in a perfect cross from Chloe Kelly, who would later become the heroine of the night.

Despite multiple attempts from both sides, neither could break the deadlock through the remainder of the match and extra time, forcing a penalty shootout.

🧤 Heroics From the Spot

In the shootout, England kept their composure and showed clinical precision. Even though Beth Mead missed the first shot, goalkeeper Hannah Hampton made two crucial saves to turn the tide.

Alex Greenwood, Niamh Charles, and Chloe Kelly all converted their penalties, with Kelly sealing the 3-1 win.

For Spain, only Patri Guijarro managed to score, while the remaining attempts were either saved or off target.

🏆 England Makes History

With this victory, England becomes just the second team in history to win back-to-back UEFA Women’s Euro titles, joining Germany in that elite group. It also serves as sweet revenge after their loss to Spain in the 2023 World Cup final.

With resilience, talent, and leadership, the Lionesses have once again asserted their dominance in European football—celebrating yet another golden chapter in their growing legacy.
