Mexican Pride in Singapore
Singapore, July 29, 2025. Mexican diver Osmar Olvera reaffirmed his place among the worldâs elite by claiming the silver medal in the menâs 1-meter springboard final at the 2025 Diving World Championships. In a fierce contest, gold went to Chinaâs Zheng Jiuyuan, who scored an impressive 443.70 points, while Olvera earned silver with 429.60 points. The podium was completed by Yan Siyu, also from China, who tallied 405.50 points.
Already a silver medalist in the mixed team event earlier in the tournament, Olvera now becomes the most decorated Mexican diver in World Championships history, with six career medals. Though he fought hard to defend his 2024 world title, a misstep on his third dive kept him from closing the gap with the Chinese leader.
đ Mia Cuevas Stuns the World at Just 14 Years Old
In addition to Olveraâs success, Mexico celebrated another historic moment thanks to the performance of Mia Cuevas, who at just 14 years old achieved an extraordinary feat in the womenâs division. With a score of 260.05, she finished seventh in the world, narrowly missing the podium by only 10 points.
Her remarkable showing placed her ahead of more experienced competitors and established her as one of the breakout stars of the World Championships, and a promising name to watch in the future of womenâs diving.
đ Other Notable Results
Following the medalists Zheng Jiuyuan (gold), Osmar Olvera (silver), and Yan Siyu (bronze), Jordan Houlden of Great Britain placed fourth with 405.15 points, just missing out on bronze. Rounding out the top eight were Jules Bouyer of France (390.15), Moritz Wesemann of Germany (386.70), Lorenzo Marsaglia of Italy (383.70), and Gennadii Fokin of NAB (381.00).
In tenth place was Jonathan Ruvalcaba, representing the Dominican Republic, with 354.50 points. Fellow Mexican Juan Manuel Celaya narrowly missed making the final by just three points.
đ A Bright Future
With Osmar Olvera leading a new wave of talent and rising stars like Mia Cuevas shining on the world stage, the present and future of Mexican diving has never looked brighter. The Singapore World Championships still have events to go, and Mexicoâs national team remains a serious contender on the global medal table.
